Delta Pupils Shine at RFU Rugby Festival

Pupils from three Delta Academies Trust primary schools recently enjoyed an unforgettable sporting experience as they travelled to take part in a rugby festival delivered by the Rugby Football Union.

A team of 10 pupils made up of five boys and five girls, were selected from Morley Place Academy, Montagu Academy and Pheasant Bank Academy to represent the Trust. The group set off bright and early for the four-hour journey to Richmond, full of excitement for the day ahead.

The morning session featured a range of engaging rugby activities, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills while having fun. A particular highlight was the chance to have photographs taken with the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy, a moment the children will no doubt remember for years to come.

Following lunch, the team travelled to the iconic Twickenham Stadium, where they had the incredible opportunity to play on the pitch itself. Competing in a pool of teams, the pupils delivered an outstanding performance, playing five matches, winning three, drawing one, and narrowly losing another, a result that still sparks some debate!

Throughout the day, the children demonstrated exceptional teamwork, determination and competitiveness. Their conduct and effort truly embodied the values of Delta Academies Trust, making it a proud and memorable occasion for all involved.

Ash Duncan, Head of Morley Place Academy, said: “The pupils were outstanding throughout. They participated in all the activities with energy and competed against schools with a strong rugby pedigree, showing true northern grit.”

Ryan Schofield, Head at Pheasant Bank Academy, added: “It has always been a dream to visit the iconic home of rugby, and to score a try on that pitch is something that will live long in the memory.”

The festival built on the strong foundation of rugby already being developed across Doncaster primary schools through the Jason Robinson Foundation. The experience provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to showcase their progress and passion for the sport.

David Longley, Head of Montagu Academy, commented: “This is a great platform to build on. Having worked with the Jason Robinson Foundation, we can now start to see a pathway being formed.”
